“Status charts the darker side of our new world. Existence delivers anxiety as it always has. What addition does it make to how we inhabit our lives? I am intrigued by technology’s role as a potential fire beneath our personal cauldrons of grief.
Status explores an imagined world where our digital persona mesh so closely with the real world that our sense of self begins to blur. The distance between one mind and another is so small that our desire for comfort draws us into near complete interconnection with others.
Is the thirst to know and be known unquenchable? Where does the truth of our personality lie?
Is the dream we hold of ourselves in the mind closer to a true soul? Thought-controlled technology is in development by the military and computer gaming companies right now.
My film explores issues of traditional philosophy in a modern, genre context.
I made it for anyone who lives and breathes. The project was an opportunity for me to marry questions of existence with a dark, unpredictable world. I hope it manages to effect some viewers and contributes to a world of questions.” writes filmmaker Richard Williamson.
